Worked as caretakers, houseworkers, and homemakers

Indentured Servants
Men and women who did not have money for passage to the colonies
Agreed to work without pay for the person who paid their passage for seven years
Were free at the end of their contract
Slaves
Captured in Africa and sold to slave traders
Shipped to colonies
Sold into slavery or born into slavery (children of slaves)
Owned as property-no rights
